Benzoyl Peroxide is an anti-bacterial agent that absorbs oils and prevents bacteria build up. Chlorhexidine Gluconate disinfects the skin from surface bacteria. Menthol is a natural antiseptic and cooling agent. Liacinamide is an anti-inflammatory agent. Salicylic Acid exfoliates and rids the skin of blemish-causing bacteria. Tea Tree Oil disinfects and rids the skin of blemish-causing bacteria. Zinc Sulfate promotes healthy skin cells and helps repair damaged tissues.

Aging is inevitable. However, signs of aging can be significantly reversed, slowed and prevented with the proper protection and nourishment of the skin.

Aging occurs when highly unstable and reactive free radicals – electrons that escape during the body’s natural oxidation process – attack neighbouring molecules and ‘steal’ their electrons to stablize themselves. In doing so, more free radicals are formed, causing a chain reaction of unstable electrons that damage cells and organs in the body. In younger, healthier skin cells, the body effectively combats free radicals caused by UV rays, pollution and other environmental toxins. However over time, continued exposure to these harmful elements weaken the skin cells so that they are unable to overcome free radical attack. This leads to a spiralling effect of aging on the form of dry or dull skin, lines, loss of elasticity, and age spots.

The cornerstone of SESHA’S anti-aging regimen is based on utilizing antioxidants proven to fight free radicals. While antioxidants are arguably the most effective means of reversing the signs of aging caused by free radicals, not all products containing antioxidants have the same efficacy. Most antioxidants and nutrients have a large molecular weight, making it difficult for them to pass through the outermost skin cell layer, the stratum corneum.

The stratum corneum is the layer of dead or dying skin cells that functions as a protective barrier by preventing environmental toxins from entering into the deeper skin cell layers and by retaining moisture in the skin. Therefore, most antioxidants are unable to pass thorough the stratum corneum and have a very limited effect on reversing free radical damage. In order for large molecules to penetrate through the epidermis to the regenerative skin cells, a delivery mechanism must be used to carry these molecules across this barrier.

Hyperpigmentation is caused by a number of different factors – the most common being the body’s response to post-inflammation from acne scars, scars from surgical procedures, sun damage, and hormones. Similar to plants and fruits that brown when cut and are exposed to air, our skin also has an oxidizing process to protect itself from these dangerous environmental conditions. When the skin cell becomes damaged, chemical signals are sent to the skin cell to initiate a chain reaction of process.

First, the chemical signals from, for example, UVA and UVB rays, trigger the release of Melanocyte Stimulating Hormones (MSH) which bind to cell receptors ont eh melanocyte. Once the MSH binds to the melanocyte, an enzyme called tyrosinase, which acts as a catalyst in producing melanin (pigmentation), is activated and sends melanin from the centre of the melanocyte to the outer parts of the cells. As the outer layers of the skin shed, these pigmented cells rise to the surface of the skin, revealing hyperpigmentation.
